Terms & Conditions

Version 4.0 - Effective 29 April 2026

Most terms exist to protect the platform from its users. Ours exist to protect the community from bad actors — and to be honest with you about where the lines are. Read them. They're written to be understood, not buried. If something isn't clear, contact us. If something feels wrong, tell us. This platform runs on trust, and trust starts here.

1. Who we are

ALTLFE Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales. We operate the ALTLFE platform — a social network and dating service for the consensual non-monogamy (CNM) community — accessible at altlfe.com and via our applications.

References to "ALTLFE", "we", "us" or "our" in these terms mean ALTLFE Ltd. References to "you" or "your" mean any person who accesses or uses the platform in any capacity.

2. Who can use ALTLFE

Age. You must be 18 years of age or older — or the age of majority in your country of residence, if that is higher — to access or use ALTLFE. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement. We are required by law — including the UK Online Safety Act 2023 — to implement and maintain robust age assurance, and our verification process is part of how we meet that obligation. Misrepresenting your age is a serious breach of these terms and will result in permanent removal from the platform.

Eligibility. You must be a human individual. Accounts created by bots, automated scripts, or on behalf of organisations are not permitted unless you have a separate written agreement with us. Where a business profile is operated within an account (see Section 14), the account itself remains held by a human individual who is personally verified.

Jurisdiction. We do not knowingly allow access from jurisdictions where use of this platform would be unlawful. It is your responsibility to ensure that accessing ALTLFE is legal where you are located.

Conduct baseline. By using ALTLFE you agree to treat other members with respect. This is a CNM community built on the principle of ethical relating. The same integrity we ask you to bring to your relationships, we ask you to bring to your behaviour here.

3. Your account and your profiles

One account per person. Each member holds one verified account. Within your account you may create multiple profiles to reflect different aspects of your dynamics or relationship structures. All profiles share the same verified identity and the same account-level standing. Where the business profile feature is available to you, you may also operate one or more business profiles from within the same account, on the additional terms set out in Section 14.

Accounts cannot be shared or transferred. Your account is personal to you. You may not share login credentials or transfer your account to anyone else. Where two or more members are in a shared dynamic and want a shared profile, the platform supports this — but each individual still holds their own verified account.

Accuracy. You agree to provide accurate, current and complete information during registration and to keep your account information up to date.

Account integrity. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent enforcement, evade restrictions, or otherwise deceive the platform is a serious breach of these terms. If we detect or reasonably suspect this, we may suspend or terminate all associated accounts.

Enforcement applies at the right level. Most enforcement decisions affect the specific profile or piece of content where the breach occurred. Some — especially serious or repeated breaches — apply at account level and affect every profile within the account. Permanent termination always applies at account level. Our Community Standards and Moderation Agreement explain how this works in practice.

4. Your content

Ownership. You own the content you create, upload or share on ALTLFE. By posting content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display and distribute it solely for the purpose of operating the platform. This licence ends when you remove the content, or when we remove it, or when your account is closed.

Watermarking. Photos uploaded to ALTLFE carry both a visible watermark and a hidden digital watermark. The watermarks let our team identify the source of any image shared outside the platform without permission, including where sharing occurred via screenshot. We do not pretend the watermark prevents sharing — it makes unauthorised sharing traceable, not impossible.

Removal of your content. You can remove your content from the platform at any time. We may also remove content that breaches these terms or our Community Standards.

No systematic reproduction by you. You may not copy, reproduce, scrape, archive or systematically extract any part of the ALTLFE platform or its content, whether for commercial purposes or otherwise.

5. What you must not do

The following are prohibited on ALTLFE. This list is not exhaustive — our Community Standards provide fuller guidance, and we reserve the right to take action against any conduct that harms members or the community, even where not explicitly listed here.

You must not:

  1. Post content involving anyone under 18, in any context — sexual or otherwise
  2. Post or share child sexual abuse material in any form. Any such content is reported to the National Crime Agency without exception
  3. Post or share extreme pornography, as defined under section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008, or any other content that is illegal under applicable law
  4. Share intimate images of any person without their explicit consent
  5. Send, share or upload content that is racist, misogynistic, misandrist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise discriminatory
  6. Harass, threaten, intimidate, stalk or coerce any other member
  7. Impersonate another person, misrepresent your identity, or post images that are not genuinely of you (or of the other person where shared profiles are used)
  8. Share content removed from another member without the consent of everyone involved
  9. Use the platform to commit, facilitate or solicit any criminal offence
  10. Use the platform for commercial solicitation, advertising or paid services outside of the dedicated business profile feature where that feature is available to you (see Section 14). Sex workers are welcome as members; the platform's member-to-member features are not for commercial use. The fuller position is set out in the Community Standards, which form part of these terms by reference
  11. Post personal identifying information about another person — including addresses, financial information, identification numbers or other sensitive details
  12. Attempt to circumvent our verification, content categorisation, moderation or safety systems
  13. Use bots, automation, scraping tools, or any system designed to extract platform content or interact with members at scale
  14. Attempt to access another member's account, content or messages without their permission

Off-platform conduct. These terms primarily govern your conduct on ALTLFE. We may also take action where your off-platform conduct directly affects other members of this community in a way that is verifiable to us — for example, where ALTLFE-originating contact details are used to harass a member off-platform, or where credible evidence of off-platform conduct relates to a safety risk on the platform. We do not act as a general arbiter of off-platform behaviour, and we will not take action based on rumour or unverifiable claims.

6. Verification

ALTLFE operates a multi-stage verification process. The detail of how each stage works is held internally; what you need to know as a member is set out below. Our Privacy Policy explains how the data involved is handled.

Live identity check. As part of registration, you complete a live identity check that confirms you are a real, present individual. This cannot be completed using a photograph or a pre-recorded clip. The recording is not retained beyond the check itself, but a small set of reference frames is kept for the duration of your membership so our internal team can confirm photos you upload later are genuinely of you. Reference frames are accessible only to our internal team.

Age check. As part of the live identity check we also assess apparent age. If your apparent age suggests you may be under 25, our Challenge 25 process is triggered automatically.

Challenge 25. If Challenge 25 is triggered, you submit a single image of yourself holding a government-issued photo identity document. This is used solely to confirm you meet the minimum age requirement. The image is permanently and automatically deleted from our systems on completion of the check, regardless of outcome.

Private message photo. Separately from your public profile, you may choose to enable a private message photo. This must be a face photo of you — it is an identity-verification feature, not an intimate-image feature. Our internal team checks it against the reference frames from your live identity check. You control who sees it and on what terms.

What you agree to. By participating in verification, you confirm that everything you submit is genuine, current, and accurately represents you. Submitting false or misleading verification material is a serious breach of these terms and may amount to fraud.

7. Moderation, reporting and enforcement

How moderation works. We moderate ALTLFE to protect the community. Moderation is carried out by our internal team and, for eligible content, by community moderators — trusted members with a sustained track record of good judgement. Community moderators provide signals only; every decision that affects your content or your account is made by our internal team. Community moderators see only what would normally be visible to them under standard privacy settings; they cannot access private content.

Reporting. Any member can report any content or conduct they believe breaches our Community Standards. Reported content is hidden from other members immediately, pending review. The reported member is not notified of a report unless and until that report is upheld.

Private messages and disputes. Private messages on ALTLFE are end-to-end encrypted. Our team — including administrators — cannot read message content. Where a dispute arises and a member wants the content of a thread reviewed, the platform offers a consent-based dispute process: every party to the thread must agree before the thread can be shared with our moderation team for review. If anyone declines, the thread remains private and we treat the underlying report on the basis of the rest of the available evidence. If a thread is shared and is found to contain a fabricated complaint, the person who made the report may face reputation consequences.

Enforcement. Where a breach is found, we take proportionate action. Possible outcomes include content removal, warnings, feature restrictions, suspensions, and in serious cases permanent termination of the account. Some breaches — including child sexual exploitation and abuse, terrorism, serious violence, and fraud — result in immediate termination and, where the law requires, referral to the relevant authority.

Appeals. You can appeal decisions that affect your content or your account. The appeal process is set out in our Community Standards.

8. Complaints procedure

We operate a formal complaints procedure in compliance with our duties under the UK Online Safety Act 2023. This procedure is easy to access, easy to use, and applies to all members and affected persons.

What you can complain about. You may raise a complaint about content you believe is illegal; content you believe breaches our Community Standards; content you believe is harmful, including to children; the way a moderation decision was made; another member's conduct; or any concern about how we have handled a report or dispute.

How to complain. Complaints can be submitted via the in-platform report function (fastest route for content-specific complaints), email to complaints@altlfe.com, or post to ALTLFE Ltd, 483 Green Lanes, London, England, N13 4BS. When submitting a complaint, please include as much detail as possible: what you are reporting, where it appears or appeared, and why you believe it breaches our standards or the law.

What happens next. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days. We will investigate and respond substantively within 28 days. For complaints involving suspected illegal content — particularly content relating to child sexual exploitation, terrorism or serious violence — we act immediately, without waiting for the full investigation timeline.

What we will tell you. On conclusion of our investigation, we will tell you the outcome and the action we have taken. Where we cannot share specific details — for example, because doing so would impact another member's rights or an ongoing investigation — we will tell you that and explain why.

If you are not satisfied. If you are unhappy with our response, you may escalate your complaint to Ofcom. Ofcom does not handle every individual complaint directly, but it can take account of patterns of complaints when exercising its regulatory functions. You can contact Ofcom at ofcom.org.uk.

Regulatory referrals. Where a complaint reveals content or conduct that we are legally required to report — including child sexual exploitation and abuse material — we will make the required referral, regardless of the outcome of your individual complaint.

9. Privacy and data

Your privacy is governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms. The Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, how long we keep it, and your rights. Read it.

Some commitments worth highlighting:

  1. We do not sell, rent or licence your personal data
  2. We do not use your data to serve advertising, on or off platform
  3. We do not share your data with external AI providers — our moderation tools are operated in-house
  4. We do not retain identity documents beyond the verification check
  5. Private messages are end-to-end encrypted; our team cannot read them
  6. We are the sole custodian of your data — there are no third-party copies

The full picture, including the limited and specific circumstances in which we share data, is in the Privacy Policy.

10. Regulatory compliance

We operate ALTLFE in compliance with applicable UK law. The most relevant regulatory frameworks are:

The Online Safety Act 2023 and Ofcom guidance. We have completed an Illegal Content Risk Assessment and a Children's Access Assessment, and we operate in line with Ofcom's Codes of Practice for user-to-user services. Our age assurance meets the Highly Effective Age Assurance standard. We have designated a Senior Manager responsible for our online safety duties.

The Online Safety (CSEA Content Reporting) Regulations 2025. We are legally required to detect, remove and report child sexual exploitation and abuse material to the National Crime Agency. This obligation is automatic, mandatory, and non-discretionary. Members may not use these terms to prevent, delay or restrict it.

UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Our data practices are governed by these frameworks. Full details are set out in our Privacy Policy.

Cooperation with regulators and authorities. We will cooperate fully and promptly with Ofcom, the Information Commissioner's Office, the National Crime Agency, and any other regulatory or law enforcement authority exercising lawful powers. Members may not use these terms to prevent, delay or restrict that cooperation. Where we are required by law to provide data or assistance, we will comply. We may be legally prohibited from disclosing that such a requirement has been made.

Women and girls safety. We have regard to Ofcom's guidance on protecting women and girls online and have implemented measures across our platform design, moderation practices and community standards accordingly.

11. Intellectual property

ALTLFE's intellectual property. All intellectual property in the ALTLFE platform — including its design, structure, software, brand, and content produced by us — is owned by or licensed to ALTLFE Ltd. Nothing in these terms grants you any right to use our intellectual property other than as necessary to use the platform in the normal way.

Your content. You retain ownership of content you create. You grant us a limited licence to use it solely for operating the platform, as set out in Section 4.

12. Third-party links

ALTLFE may contain links to third-party websites or services. These are provided for convenience only. We do not endorse, control or accept responsibility for the content, privacy practices or conduct of any third party. Accessing third-party sites is at your own risk.

13. Limitation of liability

We aim to keep ALTLFE available and functioning reliably, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. The platform is provided on an "as is" basis.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ALTLFE Ltd shall not be liable for: any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss; loss of data, loss of profit, or loss of goodwill; the conduct of other members on or off the platform; or any content posted by members that breaches these terms.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other matter that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under English law or the mandatory laws of your country of residence.

Our regulatory and statutory obligations override the limitations in this section. Where a regulator requires action, we will take that action regardless of how it interacts with this clause.

14. Business profiles (feature pending launch)

This section sets out the terms that will apply to business profiles when the feature launches. The feature is not currently available. Until it is, the provisions of this section have no operative effect, and member-to-member commercial activity remains prohibited under Section 5 and the Community Standards. We will give notice before the feature is enabled and will treat continued use of the platform after enablement as acceptance of these provisions in respect of any business profile you choose to create.

What a business profile is. A business profile is a profile type designed for businesses that serve and support the consensual non-monogamy community — for example, club operators, event organisers, lifestyle-friendly hotels, bars, pubs, and other services oriented to this community. Business profiles appear in a dedicated business section of the platform and are subject to a set of feature controls that are different from personal profiles.

Same account. A business profile is created from within an existing verified member account. The account holder remains a human individual who has completed personal verification. A business profile is not a separate account; it is a profile type that the account holder operates alongside their personal profile or profiles.

Eligibility and verification. Eligibility to create a business profile is conditional on:

  1. The account holder having a verified personal account in good standing
  2. Verification of the business itself, which may include confirmation of legal existence (for example, registered company details, sole-trader confirmation, or equivalent), confirmation of the relationship between the account holder and the business, and any further checks we consider appropriate to confirm the business is a legitimate operator within the community
  3. Acceptance of any additional terms specific to business profiles that we publish at the point of feature launch

We may decline a business profile application or remove an existing business profile where the verification criteria are not met, where we have reasonable concern about the business, or where the business does not fit the scope of the dedicated business section.

Permitted activity within a business profile. Within the business profile feature, and subject to the Community Standards and these terms, a business may:

  1. Maintain a public-facing profile that describes the business, its services, and how members can engage with it
  2. Post updates that appear in the dedicated business section of the platform and, where members have opted in to follow the business, in those members' personal feeds
  3. Be followed by individual members on a consent basis (members opt in to follow; they can unfollow at any time)
  4. Use any messaging or contact features that we make specifically available within the business profile feature, on the terms applicable to those features

What business profiles must not do. Business profiles must not:

  1. Send unsolicited direct messages to members who have not opted in to receive them, or otherwise circumvent the consent-based model
  2. Use member-to-member features (personal profiles, member messaging, reviews) to promote, advertise or solicit business activity. Member-to-member features are not the route to market; the dedicated business section is
  3. Make misleading claims about the business, its services, its prices, its safety practices, or its standing in the community
  4. Hold themselves out as endorsed, accredited or partnered with ALTLFE Ltd unless that relationship has been confirmed in writing
  5. Process payments through the platform, unless and until we make a specific payment feature available and the business profile uses it on its terms
  6. Operate as a vehicle for commercial activity by individual members that would otherwise breach Section 5 or the Community Standards on commercial activity
  7. Conduct activity that is unlawful, that would breach consumer protection law, advertising standards, or sector-specific regulation, or that would expose ALTLFE to regulatory action

Member-to-member rules unaffected. The existence of the business profile feature does not change the rules that apply to member-to-member engagement. The prohibition on commercial solicitation through personal profiles, member messaging and reviews remains in force. A member who operates a business profile must keep their commercial activity within that profile and the dedicated business section.

Following and consent. A member may choose to follow a business profile. Following is the basis on which business updates appear in the member's personal feed. Following is opt-in, can be revoked at any time, and does not authorise the business to contact the member outside of the consent-based model. We will not pre-populate or auto-suggest business follows in any way that bypasses member choice.

Liability and consumer relationships. Where a member transacts with a business off-platform — for example, books a club night, reserves a hotel room, or pays for a service — the contract is between the member and the business. ALTLFE is not party to that contract and does not act as agent, broker, intermediary or guarantor. The Community Standards on safety and the platform's reporting routes remain available; commercial disputes (refunds, service quality, contractual matters) are between the parties.

Moderation, reporting and enforcement. Business profiles are subject to moderation, reporting and enforcement on the same basis as personal profiles, with such additional or differentiated provisions as are necessary to reflect their public-facing and commercial nature. Where a business profile breaches these terms or the Community Standards, action may be taken against the business profile, the underlying account, or both, depending on the nature of the breach.

Removal at our discretion. We reserve the right to remove a business profile, with or without prior notice, where we consider this necessary to protect members, the integrity of the platform, or our compliance position. Where removal of a business profile is the appropriate response to a breach, the underlying personal account may continue to operate unless the breach also warrants account-level action.

Additional terms at launch. Where the operation of business profiles requires further terms — for example on payments, advertising standards, content licensing for promotional use, or sector-specific compliance — those terms will be published at or before the point of feature launch and will form part of these terms by reference for any member who creates or operates a business profile.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Where the change is material, we will notify you in advance and explain what is changing and why. Continued use of the platform after the change takes effect is your acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree to a change, you can close your account.

16. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with them.

Nothing in this clause removes or limits any rights you have under the mandatory consumer or data protection laws of your country of residence. If you are an EU consumer, you retain the protections of EU consumer law and may bring proceedings in your local courts where local law allows. If you are a US, Australian, or Canadian resident, your local law applies where it provides greater rights or protections than these terms.
